Character Design Development: Monster High

Towards the end of 2019, I had the incredible opportunity to do character design development on a pitch for the upcoming (at the time) reboot of Monster High for Mattel in collaboration with ND Stevenson. This version of MH would've been 2D animated, so a main concern was balancing complex & fashionable outfits suitable for dolls with simple designs that could be drawn repeatedly during the animation process. They ended up going with a different pitch entirely, but I'm still extremely proud of what we created!

Character Design Development: She-Ra

Shortly before I worked as a Storyboard Artist on She-Ra, I was delighted to have a chance to try and update the 1980's designs during the development of the reboot. Another designer's work was chosen as the basis for the final show, but it was still a great experience.

Special Outfit Design: She-Ra Princess Prom

While working on She-Ra, as the resident clotheshorse, I was tasked with doing concept sketches for the episode Princess Prom - in which all the characters would be wearing special formal outfits! A dream come true for me, I had a lot of fun doing these sketches & going back and forth with character designer Ray Geiger to finalize the looks.

Special Outfit Design: She-Ra Heart Flash Forward

Nearing the end of She-Ra, ND Stevenson asked me to create dreamlike looks for Adora's vision of a peaceful future in the final episode.

Character Design: Adventure Zone BALANCE Animated Trailer (+ fanart)

There were quite a few fans of the podcast The Adventure Zone at Dreamworks back in the day! Our colleague Meg Lloyd reached out to Ray Geiger & myself to collaborate on preliminary character designs for an animated trailer based on The Adventure Zone: Balance. The final product can be seen on The McElroy Family youtube channel, and has over 2 million views! There were a number of hands on a lot of the images you see here - please check out the full credits for info on cleanup, color styling, etc.

On top of the designs for the trailer, I have quite the catalog of personal fanart of The Adventure Zone - as a podcast that had no "official designs" for the characters (or anything else!), the fan community was an excellent place to play around with character design & narrative illustration. The images here were created on my own time to suit my personal whims.
